NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 45-year-old woman was saved from an attempted sexual assault in Central Park Monday evening thanks to the quick actions of three bystanders, officials said.
The victim, who was wearing traditional Muslim attire, told police that around 5:40 p.m. she was on a path near East Drive at East 109th Street when a man attempted to force himself on her.
Witnesses successfully intervened, scaring the attacker off and chasing him through the park until they were able to flag down nearby officers.
Police took the suspect into custody, and charges are currently pending.
It is unclear if the victim’s faith played a role in the attack. An investigation remains ongoing.
