NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was indicted for murder on Tuesday after the remains of his ex-girlfriend were found inside an apartment bathtub in Harlem last month, according to prosecutors.

Candido Rodriguez, 51, was charged with murder in the second degree for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend, Melanie Woods, to death in her East Harlem apartment last month.

According to court documents, on April 23, at around 6:15 a.m., Rodriguez allegedly went into Woods' apartment and waited for her to return from her usual early morning dog walk.

He was allegedly sitting on the stair between floors inside the apartment where they used to live together, prosecutors said.

Woods' came back to the apartment at around 7 a.m. and shortly after was murdered inside of her apartment with 19 stab wounds in her neck, torso, and leg, according to prosecutors.

At around 8 a.m., Rodriguez allegedly left the building and called a cab.

"As alleged, Candido Rodriguez brutally murdered Melanie Woods, his ex-girlfriend, in her apartment after waiting for her to return from walking her dog. I send my deepest condolences to Ms. Woods's family and friends as they continue to mourn her loss," said District Attorney Alvin Bragg. "Ms. Woods's life was tragically cut short, and my Office will work to secure justice for her."
