NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Brooklyn subway rider was killed early Tuesday after falling onto the tracks during a scuffle with a man who grabbed his backpack, police confirmed.
The unidentified straphanger got off a Manhattan-bound 3 train at the New Lots Avenue subway station in East New York at about 12:45 a.m. when officials said he realized he left his backpack behind.
He hopped back on the train to find a man in his 30s going through the pack, sparking an argument between them.
The argument continued as the pair moved between subway cars. The victim then fell onto the tracks and was crushed by the departing train, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials said that the man who swiped the backpack and fought with the man was being questioned. No charges were immediately filed.
