Hit-run-driver abandons BMW after killing man crossing Queens street

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A speeding BMW driver struck and killed a man crossing a street in Astoria Friday morning before abandoning the vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot, police said.

The pedestrian was walking across the road near the corner of Steinway Street and Astoria Boulevard just after 4 a.m. when the driver hit him, the NYPD said.

The victim was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst where he died of his injuries, according to officials.

After the crash, the driver – only described as male – exited his vehicle and fled on foot down Steinway Street, police said.

Police are searching for the suspect.
