Man loses fingers in food dicing machine on Long Island

EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (1010 WINS) -- A man lost three fingers inside of a food dicing machine at a Long Island packaging center this week, police said.

The 45-year-old man was working at L&S Packaging Company on Central Avenue in East Farmingdale on Wednesday evening at the time of the accident, Suffolk County police said Thursday.

He was operating a food dicing machine around 7:30 p.m. when he stuck his hand inside the machine to clean it, and the machine cut three of his fingers off, police said.

The man, who is a North Amityville resident, was hospitalized at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with serious injuries, police said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) was notified of the incident, according to police.
