Man posing as Amazon fraud employee steals over $74K in cash

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police released photos on Wednesday of a man wanted for posing as an Amazon fraud employee and stealing over $74,000 in cash in Brooklyn last month.

At approximately 9:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12, a 45-year-old woman received a phone call from an unknown person who identified themselves as being a representative of the "Amazon Fraud Department" and directed her to withdraw $24,500 from her bank accounts in order to resolve fraudulent account activity.

The victim removed $24,500 from her bank accounts and followed instructions from the caller to give the money to a person in a vehicle in front of 5716 Avenue U in Old Mill Basin, cops said.

The suspect then fled in a vehicle with the money.

The second incident happened at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, when a 51-year-old man received a phone call from an unknown person who identified themselves as being a representative of the "Amazon Fraud Department."

The suspect directed the victim to withdraw $50,000 from his bank accounts in order to resolve fraudulent account activity, authorities said.

The victim removed $50,000 from his bank accounts and followed instructions from the caller to give the money to a person in a vehicle in the vicinity of East 26th Street and Avenue N in East Midwood.

The suspect fled in a vehicle with the money.

No injuries were reported as a result of either incident.
