
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – An off-duty NYPD officer was knocked onto the tracks of an East Village subway station on Tuesday evening during a dispute with a homeless man, according to police and sources.
The 24-year-old officer was attacked around 7:30 p.m. at the Third Avenue station on the L line, sources told 1010 WINS.
According to police, the victim was in a dispute with Aaron Walker, 28, when Walker punched him, causing him to fall onto the track bed.
Walker landed on the tracks as well, police said. Both men were able to get back up onto the platform.
Walker fled on a train but was arrested at the Union Square stop, police said. He faces a number of charges, including attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment.
The officer was hospitalized in stable condition at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue.
