NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man was beaten, tied up and robbed of $20,000 cash during a cryptocurrency meetup at a hotel in the Financial District last weekend, police said Friday.

The NYPD released photos of three suspects they're searching for—all men believed to be 18–22 years old—in Saturday evening's robbery.

The 40-year-old victim told investigators that his friend had arranged a meeting with an unknown person to exchange cash for crypto.

The victim arrived around 5 p.m. at the agreed meeting place—the Sonder Battery Park hotel at 2 Washington St.

He met a man in the lobby of the hotel, and they went up to room 315 on the third floor, police said.

But once they got to the door, the mystery man shoved the victim into the room and onto the floor.

Two more men then appeared, and the three of them punched the victim and used tape to tie up his ankles, wrists and mouth, police said.

They stole $20,000 cash from his bag and fled with it, according to police.

The victim declined further medical attention at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
