NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man was shot in the back and injured on bustling Canal Street in SoHo on Friday afternoon, police said.

The 21-year-old victim was gunned down shortly after 1 p.m. in front of 327 Canal St., near Greene Street, according to police.

He was shot once in the lower back by a shooter who fled south on Church Street and possibly into a nearby subway station, police said.

The victim was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and is expected to survive his injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a potential motive, weren't immediately known as the investigation continues.
