NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man was slashed in the face at the Times Square subway station on Wednesday morning, police said.
The man was slashed on a 1/2/3 platform at the 42nd Street station around 9:10 a.m., according to police.
Police said the 35-year-old victim was sitting on a bench when another man came up and started talking to him.
The victim took off his headphones and asked, "Are you talking to me?"
That's when the man spat on him and slashed him across the face, police said.
The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for treatment.
The assailant fled to the 7-line mezzanine, police said. No arrests have been reported.
The attack happened about 90 minutes after an on-duty MTA worker was punched in the face in an unrelated incident at the same Times Square station, according to police.
A spike in subway crime has renewed calls for more police and mental health experts in the transit system. Violent crimes in the system are up 82% in the last four weeks.
