NEW YORK (WCBS 880) – Police released surveillance video Monday of a man they say struck a 65-year-old woman over the head and stole her purse on a Brooklyn street before ditching the handbag when he was chased by bystanders.
The victim was walking near Rodney Street and Division Avenue in Williamsburg on the morning of Sept. 23 when a man came up to her and struck her in the back of the head with a blunt object, police said.
The man also hit her in the back with the object before stealing her purse, according to police.
Bystanders chased the man, who eventually dropped the purse as he fled, police said.
The woman was taken to Woodhull Hospital with a minor laceration to her head.
