Man killed in fatal hit-and-run while stopped on Van Wyck Expressway in Queens to assess car problems

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A hit-and-run driver struck and killed a man on Tuesday who had pulled over on the Van Wyck Expressway in Queens to handle some car issues he was experiencing, police said.

The 41-year-old victim was driving southbound on the Van Wyck Expressway, near Exit 11 in Queensboro Hill, just before 11:35 a.m. when he pulled over.

Authorities said that the victim exited his vehicle and was standing next to it while attempting to fix mechanical issues when he was struck by another driver.

EMS transported the man to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The driver fled the scene. No information on the motorist’s identity or whereabouts is known.

An investigation is ongoing.
