Man tells Tribeca store employee he is a cop before failed robbery, breaks door while fleeing

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man is wanted by police for allegedly impersonating an NYPD officer and attempting to rob a Manhattan cigar store last month, authorities said.

The incident happened on Oct. 23 around 7:25 p.m. when the suspect entered Wayback Cigar Store at 321 Broadway in Tribeca, police said.

The man said he was a cop and showed a silver shield before demanding cash and trying to steal merchandise, according to officials.

Nothing was stolen from the store in the end but the man did break the front door on his way out before fleeing the scene on a bike.

The suspect is described as being about 30 to 35 years-old, about 6'3" tall and weighing roughly 230-250 lbs. He was last seen wearing a black coat, black pants, a black hat with Brooklyn written across the front and black and white sneakers.
