NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD is searching for a man who assaulted a woman on a Bronx bus earlier this week and threatened to set her and her child on fire.
The 31-year-old woman was aboard a Bx15 bus at East 180th Street and 3rd Avenue in Tremont, accompanied by her 12-year-old son, when the attack occurred Monday morning.
Police said that the mother and son were riding the bus just before 10 a.m. when they were approached by a man who threatened to set them ablaze, police said.
The suspect then doused the woman with an unknown liquid before slashing both of her hands with a sharp object.
EMS responded to the scene and treated the woman for minor lacerations, officials said.
The threat and assault comes just over a month after a woman was set on fire and killed on a Coney Island subway train, sparking national attention and concern over passenger safety in the New York City transit system.
Police described the suspect as a 6 foot tall, 300 pound man. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded jacket, blue denim shirt, gray sweatpants and brown boots.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
