NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The NYPD on Monday released photos of a 48-year-old man wanted in connection with a citywide hate crime spree targeting mosques over a two-year span.
According to police, Nabil Kartah is tied to at least seven separate grand larceny incidents dating back to October 2024, six of which occurred inside mosques in Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan.
Kartah repeatedly entered the houses of worship during unattended hours, stealing wallets, cash, debit cards, and credit cards from unattended jackets and bags, authorities said. In multiple cases, victims reported thousands of dollars in unauthorized bank charges shortly after the thefts.
The incidents began Oct. 18, 2024, at a mosque on Coney Island Avenue in Brooklyn. Subsequent thefts took place at mosques in Astoria, East New York, Flushing, the Grand Concourse area of the Bronx, and lower Manhattan, with individual property losses ranging from $930 to $5,000. The most recent reported incident occurred July 31, when the suspect allegedly stole $5,000 from an unlocked vehicle on Delancey Street.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
These incidents are being investigated by the NYPD's Hate Crime Task Force.
