NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A man who died in a house fire in the Hamptons on Wednesday was accused of trying to murder his 97-year-old mother last year, according to reports.
A fire tore through a home on Mildred Place in Hampton Bays around 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday, killing 71-year-old Frank Holecek, the New York Post reported.
Police sources told the Post Holecek was arrested on Christmas Day last year after he allegedly attempted to kill his mother.
Holecek tried to die by suicide after the murder attempt, the outlet reported. The Southampton Press reported that he had recently been released from jail.
Holocek's mother owns the home, but no longer lives in New York state, according to the outlet.
It wasn't immediately clear what sparked the blaze. An investigation is ongoing.
