WASHINGTON, D.C. (1010 WINS) -- A California man was arrested Monday morning after allegedly being found with a bayonet and machete outside the Democratic National Committee headquarters.

Capitol Police said an officer on patrol around midnight spotted a pickup truck with a swastika and other white supremacist symbols painted on it outside DNC headquarters.
The Dodge Dakota was also found to not have a license plate, and instead had a picture of an American flag in its place, police said.
A Capitol Police officer pulled over the truck, where officers noticed a bayonet and machete in the truck, police said. Those items are illegal in Washington, D.C.
According to authorities, Donald Craighead, 44, said he was “on patrol” and spoke about white supremacist ideologies.

Craighead, of California, was arrested on possession of prohibited weapons charges.
“This is good police work plain and simple,” said Capitol Police Chief Tom Manger. “We applaud the officers’ keen observation and the teamwork that resulted in this arrest.”

Manger said later Monday that fencing will be reinstalled around the Capitol ahead of the “Justice For J6” rally planned for this weekend.
Officials said it isn’t clear if Craighead was planning to attend any demonstrations or has any ties to previous cases.
