NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man and a woman, reportedly a married couple, died in a murder-suicide on Staten Island on Wednesday night, police said.
Officers responding to a call found the 68-year-old woman and 63-year-old man at a home on Ragazzi Lane, near Mills Avenue, in the Arrochar neighborhood around 9:30 p.m.
A source told the Staten Island Advance that the two were a married couple and that a relative who hadn't heard from them in a while had asked police to do a wellness check.
The woman was lying face up on a bed in a bedroom with trauma to her neck, police said.
The man was found hanging inside a bedroom closet, according to police.
EMS pronounced both the man and woman dead at the scene. Their identities have been withheld pending the notification of their family.
Police said Thursday morning that the woman's death had been classified as a homicide and the man's death had been classified as a suicide.
A medical examiner will determine what killed them. An investigation remains ongoing.
