NEW YORK (1010 WINS/AP) – Donald Trump's tax returns have been turned over to the Manhattan District Attorney, according to multiple reports.
The former president's tax records were obtained by prosecutors on Monday, a source told CNN on Thursday morning. The Manhattan DA's office later confirmed the report.
There are said to be "millions of pages of documents," including Trump's tax returns from Jan. 2011 to Aug. 2019.
Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance Jr. had been fighting for a year and a half for access to Trump's tax records for a criminal grand jury investigation into his business dealings. The documents are protected by grand jury secrecy rules and are not expected to be made public.
Vance, a Democrat, is conducting a wide-ranging investigation that includes an examination of whether Trump or his businesses lied about the value of assets to gain favorable loan terms and tax benefits. The district attorney is also scrutinizing hush-money payments paid to women on Trump's behalf.
On Monday, the Supreme Court declined to step in to halt the turnover of Trump's tax records to Vance.
The DA's office enforced a subpoena on Trump's accounting firm, Mazars USA, within hours of the Supreme Court's ruling on Monday and now has the documents in hand, a spokesperson for the office, Danny Frost, told the Associated Press.
Trump had not yet responded Thursday. Trump has called Vance's investigation "a fishing expedition" and "a continuation of the witch hunt — the greatest witch hunt in history."
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
