NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A car slammed into a school bus in Brooklyn on Thursday, leaving a passenger in the car dead and another person injured, police said.
A 32-year-old man driving a gray Mercedes-Benz southbound on Van Sinderen Avenue struck a school bus traveling eastbound on Blake Avenue in Brownsville at around 1:15 p.m, according to police.
There were no children or additional passengers on board the bus at the time of the crash, cops said.
After the collision, the driver of the Mercedes attempted to flee but was spotted by officers who saw the crash happen. The officers arrested him at 674 Pennsylvania Avenue.
A 24-year-old male passenger in the Mercedes was taken to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center by EMS, where he was later pronounced dead. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released.
The female school bus driver was taken to Kings County Hospital with minor injuries, cops said.
An investigation is ongoing, and charges against the Mercedes driver are pending.
