NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Major League Baseball owners on Friday voted to allow hedge fund manager Steve Cohen to purchase the New York Mets — and New York City approved the deal, Mayor Bill de Blasio said.
In a statement released Friday afternoon, de Blasio said the New York City Law Department had "completed its legal review of the proposed sale of the Mets."
"New York City does not object to the sale, and the Mets may proceed with the transaction," he said.
A source told ESPN that MLB owners voted to approve Cohen as manager shortly before de Blasio released his statement.
