NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police are investigating after officers discovered a woman and her son with stab wounds — which the mother did not survive — in a Brooklyn apartment on Friday; outside the building, a dog was found dead.

At 7:02 p.m. on Friday night, officers responded to a call at an eleventh-floor apartment in 1500 Hornell Loop, a building in Starrett City.

Upon entering the scene, cops found a 58-year-old woman and 36-year old man with stab wounds to the torso. The pair were mother and son, police said.

Medical personnel pronounced Donna Hyman dead on the scene, and her son was transported to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in critical condition, authorities said.

Police found a dog dead outside of the apartment building, and the cause appears to be falling from an elevated position. Officials are investigating the possibility the animal fell from the eleventh-story apartment.

Victor, a resident at the building who moved in six months ago, told 1010 WINS/WCBS 880 that he liked the building because it was quiet, and until Friday, he hadn’t heard of any trouble.

“For what I know, it’s one of the quietest buildings, one of the most quiet buildings, and every tenant, you know, is cool with one another. So I don’t understand how this could happen,” Victor said.

The circumstances of the stabbing and connection to the dog were not immediately clear.

There have been no arrests, and the investigation is ongoing.
