NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Museum of Modern Art's 2021 Film Benefit will honor actress Penélope Cruz, Variety reported.
The 14th annual event will celebrate the Spanish actress' career with screenings of her movies as it returns for an in-person gala on Dec. 14, according to the outlet.
The honor comes on the heels of the release of Cruz's latest film, "Parallel Mothers," which was directed by Pedro Almodóvar and has received rave reviews on the film festival circuit.
"Penélope Cruz has mesmerized cinema audiences since 1992 as an artist who is as compelling in action-adventures as she is in auteur-driven pictures," Rajendra Roy, the Celeste Bartos Chief Curator of Film at MoMA, said in a statement to Variety.
"Perhaps most beloved for her collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar, her smashing performance in his film 'Parallel Mothers' cements her status as an artist of global stature," Roy added. "The first Spanish actress to be nominated for and win an Academy Award, Penélope Cruz is truly in a category all her own."
MoMA will screen Cruz's "Everybody Knows," "Volver" and "Blow" between Nov. 19 and Nov. 30 as part of its tribute to her, Variety reported.
MoMA has previously honored a host of decorated actors and directors, including Almodóvar, George Clooney, Quentin Tarantino, and Tilda Swinton, among others.
