
NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 20-year-old moped driver was killed in Brooklyn on Thursday after colliding with a truck, the NYPD said.
The victim was identified as Oscar Delarosa of Jackson Heights, Queens.
At 6:55 a.m. on Thursday officers responded to a 911 call reporting a collision in Greenpoint, police said.
A 58-year-old man was driving a 2021 International Explorer Truck westbound on Greenpoint Avenue. When he turned right onto Kingsland Avenue, the driver collided with Delarose who was driving a moped, a preliminary investigation showed.
Delarosa was thrown from his moped and into the street, police said.
EMS responded and rushed Delarose to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue with head and body trauma where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
The driver of the truck remained on the scene.
The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating this incident.
