Moped rider, 25, killed in Queens hit-and-run

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating after a moped rider was killed in a Queens hit-and-run on Tuesday night.

Just after 10 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision at the intersection of 121st Street and 149th Avenue in South Ozone Park.

Investigators determined 25-year-old Antonio Smith-Ortiz was driving a 2015 Honda PCX150 gas powered moped traveling eastbound on 149th Avenue when he was struck by an unknown vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lane.

After being struck by the vehicle, the driver of the Honda Subsequently struck a 2015 Ford Transit 350 Courier Van which was park and unoccupied.

EMS transported Smith-Ortiz to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the unknown vehicle did not remain on scene. There have been no arrests made and the investigation remains ongoing by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad.
