NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police are investigating after a man riding on a moped was fatally ejected onto the street in a crash in Queens over the weekend, authorities said Monday.
At approximately 10:37 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision in the vicinity of Laurel Hill Boulevard and 48th Street in Long Island City.
Further investigation by the NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad determined that an unidentified man driving a gas-powered moped was traveling eastbound on Laurel Hill Boulevard when he failed to navigate the roadway and struck a curb causing him to be ejected from the moped.
EMS transported the man to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst where he was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending proper family notification.
