NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Police arrested a mother on Monday following the death of her infant son found inside a Manhattan homeless shelter hotel over the weekend.

Shortly after noon on January 24, officials responded to a 911 call of an unconscious infant inside the Candlewood Suites Hotel, a shelter located at 339 West 39 Street, in Hell's Kitchen, authorities said.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 2-month-old boy, later identified as Antonio Diaz, unconscious and unresponsive, with no obvious signs of trauma observed.

EMS transported the infant to Mount Sinai West Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Following an investigation, officials arrested the baby's mother, 24-year-old Alyssa Owens.

Owens was charged with three counts of assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17 years of age.

An investigation remains ongoing.
