NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Authorities are investigating the death of a motorcyclist after a collision that occurred on a Bronx expressway on Tuesday, officials said.
Police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle collision on the southbound Major Deegan Expressway at the East 233rd Street exit at approximately 10:39 a.m. on September 21.
Upon arrival, officers observed 34-year-old Joel Ramirez Payano lying in the roadway with severe trauma to his body.
EMS transported him to St. Barnabas hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Ramirez Payano was operating a 2007 Honda Shadow Motorcycle in the left lane and while attempting to brake, rear-ended a 2007 Toyota Prius which was stopped in the left lane due to a flat tire causing him to be ejected to the roadway, the NYPD said.
The 53-year-old female operator of the 2007 Toyota Prius remained on scene.
