NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A motorcyclist died early Thursday when he collided with a light pole on a Bronx highway, officials confirmed.
According to police, around 6:10 a.m. 39-year-old Jose O. Columbus was traveling "at an apparent high rate of speed" southbound on the Major Deegan Expressway between exits 48 and 47 when he failed to properly navigate the roadway and lost control.

Columbus was then ejected from the late model Ducati he was operating and struck a light pole at the location before coming to a rest on the roadway.
Officials pronounced the motorcyclist dead on the scene.
