NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The MTA is paying tribute to employees who died of complications related to COVID-19 with a new memorial.

Through Feb. 7, the MTA will display portraits of employees who have died of COVID-19 on screens in 109 subway stations throughout the five boroughs, Curbed reported.

The screens will also display a poem written by U.S. Poet Laureate Tracy K. Smith, "Travels Far."

Nearly 140 MTA employees have died of complications related to the virus since the pandemic began, according to the outlet.

"At minimum, I want all of the families of colleagues who have passed away to be able to easily, safely and conveniently enter the system and see how much we care about their loved ones and honor their sacrifice," NYC Transit Interim President Sarah Feinberg told the outlet.

"And I want our 55,000 employees to see the memorial as well — to constantly walk by screens that show how grateful and honored we are," she added.
