NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A new, and very New York, limited-edition sandwich creation was debuted Thursday at the Moynihan Train Hall by MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber.

The sandwich, dubbed “The 1904’ in honor of the year the NYC subway system opened, is the brainchild of Alidoro CEO Jon Streep and Katz’s Deli owner Jake Dell.
Made up of Katz’s pastrami along with garlic confit cream, Calabrian chili Dijon slaw, aged Provolone and on a fresh rye, sourdough baguette wrapped in a subway map decorated paper, the sandwich will be sold through the month of October at four Alidoro locations in Manhattan.

“This specialty sandwich may seem like an unconventional way to promote the transit system, but we are looking for opportunities to bring together iconic New York City brands and also to support small and growing businesses by encouraging riders to return to the subway,” Lieber said at a press conference introducing the sandwich. “And this is just a reminder of the fact that there is so much to see and do and eat in New York.”

Lieber added that some lucky foodies will have the chance to win a prize with their purchase of a $17 sandwich lunchbox, which includes the 1904, chips and a cookie. Seventy-five winners will receive either $50 on their OMNY fare card account or a $50 OMNY gift certificate.

“This is a dream collaboration for us,” Streep said. “At its inception, we wanted something that perfectly represented the city's culinary beginnings. And what is more perfectly NYC than Katz's Deli’s pastrami on rye? Then you combine that with Alidoro’s Italian heritage and food and the creative approach we take to what we do, and you have a near perfect marriage.”

Alidoro has six locations throughout the city, including one at Moynihan Train Hall in Penn Station.

“I don't trust a lot of people with my pastrami,” Dell said. “And we went through a couple of iterations and the sandwiches fu**king awesome.”
