MTA may not launch congestion pricing program until 2023: report
NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The MTA may not launch its downtown Manhattan congestion pricing program until 2023, according to a report.
The agency was slated to start charging drivers who enter Manhattan below 61st Street fees in January, but the program could now be pushed back to 2023, the New York Post reported, citing a quarterly disclosure.
The Federal Highway Administration still hasn't told MTA officials "what type of environmental review is required to institute the new fees," prompting the delay, the outlet reported.
An MTA spokesman told the outlet the agency is "more hopeful [congestion pricing] will move forward under a Biden administration."
Officials "continue to await clarity from the feds on what type of environmental review will be required that will help determine when the program will be enacted," he added.
