NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — New Yorkers who want a booster shot can now get one in the subway.
The MTA is setting up pop-up vaccine sites offering the Moderna booster shot at three subway stations.
The first site to come online is the Times Square-42nd St. station, which will be giving out shots each day until Friday, Dec. 31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the exception of Christmas Day.
Booster shots will also be administered at the Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av/74 St. station from Tuesday, Dec. 21 to Thursday, Dec. 23 between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
A third site will come to Grand Central Terminal from Monday, Dec. 27 through Thursday, Dec. 30, with shots being administered between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
"With the surge in recent cases due to the omicron variant, we want to make sure that New Yorkers have the opportunity to get their booster shots as quickly and conveniently as possible, especially with the holidays right around the corner," said MTA Acting Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. "By placing these vaccination sites for booster shots in high traffic areas of the transit system, we hope that many will take advantage of the opportunity to further protect themselves and their loved ones."
According to the transit agency, 36,581 people have been vaccinated at MTA pop-up sites since the program first launched on May 12.
