NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Full service along the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North will be restored by Monday following Henri-related cancelations, the MTA said Sunday.
Regular weekday schedules will resume Monday after the MTA intituted some planned closures along its railroads Sunday in anticipation of Tropical Storm Henri. The MTA will also boost service along the LIRR's Montauk branch for those who've had their travel plans impacted, according the the agency.
“Tropical Storm Henri tested our resilience and perseverance today -- but it was no match for our talented and hardworking employees and management,” said Phil Eng, President of the Long Island Rail Road, in a statement.
Henri caused some downed trees that delayed trains Sunday, though MTA service throughout the region remained largely intact after the storm downgraded from Hurricane status and changed course to narrowly miss a direct hit on Long Island.
“Because of the strategic planning, preparation, and actions taken today while braving the elements, we were able to mitigate the effects of the strong winds, heavy rain, and uncertain tidal surges,” Eng added.
