MTA to finish rolling out OMNY fare payment system in subways by end of the month

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The MTA will finish rolling out its new contactless fare payment system in subway stations and on buses by the end of the month, the agency said Sunday.

Four hundred and fifty-eight of New York City's 472 subway stations already have OMNY, which stands for One Metro New York, the MTA said in a press release.

All of the city's subway stations and buses will be OMNY-enabled by the end of December, the release said. The agency will expand OMNY to the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North in 2021, according to the OMNY website.

"OMNY is just about everywhere," OMNY Executive Al Putre said in a statement. "We've moved with incredible speed and precision despite the pandemic, and in the coming weeks, first in the subways, and then on buses, anyone riding with NYC Transit will be able to pay their fare with OMNY."

"We are rapidly approaching completion of the rollout across subway stations and buses, while simultaneously moving forward with the next major phases of this project that will provide customers with a world class, modernized approach to paying their fare," Putre added.
