NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Multiple children fell ill at a Queens middle school on Friday in what may be a case of food poisoning, sources said.
Multiple middle schoolers went to the nurse's office, saying they felt sick, shortly before 11 a.m. at M.S. 137 America's School of Heroes in Ozone Park, the FDNY said.
According to police, the children were complaining of stomach pains and nausea. Seven of them were taken to a hospital, while one more was evaluated at the scene, fire officials said.
There was a party at the school at the time, and the illnesses could possibly be related to food poisoning, sources said.
“We take any incident involving student safety and wellbeing extremely seriously,” a spokesperson for the Department of Education said in a statement.
“We are actively investigating both incidents that occurred at the school this morning,” the spokesperson continued, “and we are relieved that all of the students involved received the appropriate medical attention and are doing well, and we thank the NYPD, FDNY, and EMS for their prompt attention and response.”
Sources said parents were immediately notified about the incident.
