NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty, attempted to get his name removed from the state’s sex offender registry but failed, the Daily News reported.

The 47-year-old was convicted of attempted rape in 1995 after a sex attack on a 16-year-old girl the year before.

Petty is a medium risk sex offender and claims, along with his lawyer, that he never had the opportunity to contest that status.

A hearing was held in 2004 to challenge Petty’s status but he and his lawyer argue in Brooklyn Federal court papers, that he was never notified of the hearing and his signature was forged on a document about the proceeding.

Petty also said because he was in state prison at the time, he could not have possibly been told about the hearing.

The claims were contrasted by a court transcript which shows that Petty was present at the hearing and did not contest his level 2 sex offender designation.

On Thursday, Petty asked a Brooklyn judge to withdraw the lawsuit because of the transcript. Gerson told the Daily News that he expects the case to be formally withdrawn within the next week or two.

Minaj announced her marriage to Petty in 2019. The two share a 2-year-old son.

Petty was sentenced to three years probation last year after he failed to register as a sex offender when the couple moved to California.
