NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Two people were killed and three others were injured early Saturday morning in a Bronx crash involving a BMW and Nissan Rogue, police said.
At around 4 a.m., police said that a BMW with Georgia plates was moving north on Jerome Avenue when it clipped the front end of a Nissan Rogue heading eastbound on E. Fordham Road.
The BMW then spun out and hit a pillar supporting the overhead 4 train tracks, killing both the 23-year-old male driver and his passenger, another man.
The three people in the Nissan Rogue were injured, including its driver, 36-year-old Jamie Winston. All three Nissan occupants were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition.
Winston was later charged with driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by alcohol, police said.
Police also said that excessive speed was likely a factor in the deadly crash.
“It’s very hard to look at. Someone must have been drinking, and speeding,” an onlooker told 1010 WINS/WCBS 880.
The incident is still under investigation.
