OLD BRIDGE, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man has been sentenced to 17 years in a 2019 crash involving a car and a pickup truck that killed two people, including a teenager, authorities said.
The Middlesex County prosecutor’s office and Old Bridge police said 25-year-old Tristan Rodriguez was sentenced Tuesday on convictions of first-degree aggravated manslaughter as well as vehicular homicide and assault by auto.
Prosecutors said Rodriguez must serve 85% of his sentence or about 14 1/2 years before he is eligible for parole.
Authorities said his car hit the back of the pickup shortly before 4 a.m. on July 6, 2019 in Old Bridge. Twenty-nine-year-old Krystal Diaz of Old Bridge, a passenger in Rodriguez’s car, was killed along with a 17-year-old girl in the pickup. The 20-year-old pickup driver was injured.
