MORRISTOWN, N.J. (WCBS 880) -- A New Jersey man is being sought Monday on murder charges in connection to the beating death of his girlfriend's young son, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office says.

On Friday, Morristown police responded to the Morristown Medical Center on reports of a 3-year-old in cardiac arrest.

According to prosecutors, an investigation revealed many physical injuries and an autopsy determined the manner of death as a homicide.

Another investigation found the beating occurred at the Oyo Hotel in East Hanover, where prosecutors said the child was staying with his father, Edwin Urbina. Urbina, 27, allegedly beat the boy early Friday morning, leading to his death.

Prosecutors said the boy's mom, Krystal Straw, wasn't there at the time, but arrived soon after. She allegedly brought Urbina to another location before the child was taken to a hospital.

According to the prosecutor's office, Urbina urged the child's mother to delete items from her cellphone and deny his involvement in the death when asked by police.

Prosecutors say Urbina is still a fugitive and should be considered dangerous.

Straw has been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of children, third-degree hindering apprehension or prosecution, third-degree tampering with a witness and fourth-degree tampering with evidence.

Anyone with information on Urbina or any other information about the case is being asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit at 973-285-6200, the East Hanover Police Department at 973-887-0432, or Morris County CrimeStoppers at 973-267-2255.
