TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) — Two New Jersey state troopers who are currently suspended have been charged with exchanging sexually explicit text messages that included images and descriptions of child sexual abuse, prosecutors said Friday.
Jeffrey Reitz, 49, of Williamstown, and Andrea Knox, 36, of Mount Holly, were indicted on charges including possession of child sexual abuse material this past Wednesday, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office said in a press release.
Prosecutors said Reitz and Knox had "sexually explicit conversations" via text about an underage girl back in 2018.
In August of that year, Knox asked Reitz for "details about the sex acts [he hoped] to perform on the girl," according to prosecutors. After that text exchange, Reitz told Knox he had "touched" the girl, the attorney general's office said.
A day later, Reitz sent Knox photos that showed two nude girls "with their genitals visible," according to the attorney general's office. Knox didn't report Reitz after he sent her the photos, prosecutors alleged.
Reitz is also accused of exchanging explicit emails with another woman, according to prosecutors.
In one email, the woman "proposed that Reitz sexually assault a young girl and sent him a sexually explicit photo of the girl," prosecutors said.
Investigators also found images of child sexual abuse in Reitz' iCloud account, the attorney general's office said.
Reitz has been charged with four counts of third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, two counts of second-degree official misconduct, two counts of second-degree distribution of child sexual abuse material and fourth-degree attempted tampering with evidence.
Knox, meanwhile, has been charged with third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material, second-degree official misconduct and fourth-degree attempted tampering with evidence.
