NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — The Northwell Health Nurse Choir is set to take the "America's Got Talent" stage live Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
The choir, which is comprised of 18 frontline nurses from around New York, first began performing in 2020 to support Nurse Heroes — a nonprofit that aims to solve nursing shortages and raise funds for scholarships.
The Northwell Health Nurse Choir first appeared on the hit NBC show in June 2021 and received "the Golden Buzzer" by judge Howie Mandel, allowing them to head straight to the live performances.
Cassidy Toben, a choir member and nurse manager at Lenox Hill Hospital, told WNBC that music is what brought the group together during the COVID-19 pandemic — giving them "hope" during a tough year for healthcare workers.
"Getting up and putting on that PPE, you just feel so isolated and then to have this moment where we could finally be together and be people and do something that we all really love to do," Toben said. "It's given a message to everybody to go out there and do the things that you love and feel good about those things because we are still in the middle of the pandemic and we all could use a little bit of light, a little bit of hope."
