NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The TSA revealed its 2024 Canine Calendar, a way of appreciating over 1,000 explosives detection canines that ensure safety across the United States' transportation network.
About 300 canines are trained annually by the TSA.
These dogs, known for their sense of smell, are trained to detect explosives and explosive materials.
Each dog undergoes a 16-week training program at the TSA Canine Training Center in San Antonio, where they are paired with handlers, socialized to adapt to transportation settings, and trained in identifying a range of explosive odors.
Among the featured canines is Gina from LaGuardia Airport, representing New York.
The 2024 features the 2023 Cutest Canine Contest winner, Dina, from Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
The calendar, showcasing 15 exceptional canine winners, is available for immediate download.
