NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — June is Pride month, and NYC Pride released its event calendar on Wednesday with information regarding 2024’s programming to advocate for equality and celebrate diversity in New York City.

“At this crucial time, we should all rally together for LGBTQIA+ rights and for the freedom to love and live authentically,” co-chair Kazz Alexander said. “Join us, advocates and allies alike, in solidarity. Let's support the Queer community, each other, and strive for equal rights and liberty across all identities.”

Festivals, parties and “calls to action that center Queer joy and unity” are among the Pride plans.

“Given the chilling rhetoric and legislation targeting trans youth and their families, we are committed to creating safe, Queer-affirming spaces that empower all LGBTQIA+ youth,” executive director of NYC Pride Sandra M. Perez said.

NYC Pride’s roster of events culminates in the 2024 Pride March, which will be held on Sunday, June 30. The 2024 celebration marks the 40th anniversary of NYC Pride becoming the official organizers of the event.

The NYC Pride March originated in the 1970s as a civil rights demonstration following the Stonewall Uprising, and NYC Pride emphasized that as challenges and inequalities persist, the march “[serves] as a platform for marginalized communities to amplify their voices, demand justice, and push for societal change.”

Also on Sunday, June 30 are PrideFest, the largest LGBTQIA+ street festival in NYC, and Bliss Days (formerly Femme Fatale), a celebration of LGBTQIA+ womxn.

PrideFest includes various componenets—including StageFest, FamilyFest, CommunityFest and FoodFest—to provide space for the queer community and allies to unite in solidarity and "embrace the spirit of Pride." It will be held in Greenwich Village.

Bliss Days, a 21+ ticketed event, is dedicated to honoring the achievements and contributions of LGBTQIA+ womxn, and will be held in the DL, a lounge venue in the Lower East Side.

The day before the Pride March, NYC Pride is holding Youth Pride, a space for LGBTQIA+ youth ages 13-24 to experience empowerment, education and community building. This will be held at the South Street Seaport Museum near Pier 16.

And in an annual celebration of Queer existence, NYC Pride is hosting TEAZE, a 21+ party at Club Lambda in Brooklyn. DJs and performers will take the stage at the ticketed event.
