NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- New York City saw record-breaking rainfall Saturday night ahead of Tropical Storm Henri.
According to the National Weather Service, New York City recorded its wettest day since 2014 with 4.45 inches of rain falling in Central Park.
"The Central Park ASOS broke the daily maximum rainfall record for 8/21 with 4.45 inches of rain," the National Weather Service New York wrote on Twitter.
Nearly 2 inches fell between 10 and 11 p.m. in Central Park -- the wettest hour on record for New York City. An additional 1.84 inches fell from 11 p.m. to midnight.
Parts of Brooklyn saw over 6 inches of rainfall, while most of the area got at least 2 inches of rain.
The rainfall set off dangerous flooding in some spots including several streets and roadways in Brooklyn and Queens.
The heavy rain caused standing water to reach the top of car doors on the Cross Island Parkway, forcing some drivers to abandon their vehicles.
Multiple vehicles were submerged at 4th Avenue and Carroll Street in Park Slope.
One person was rescued from a vehicle by NYPD Emergency Service Unit, according to officials.
