NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The New York City Department of Transportation on Monday announced it will have a “sign drop,” each month selling limited editions of authentic, commemorative New York City street signs.
Starting off with a Pride Month special, the first sign drop is of Christopher Street/Stonewall Place hand made at the NYC DOT Sign Shop. There are only 50 signs and will be sold online for $75 each.
The first batch sold out within a day of release. Those interested can email citystor@dcas.nyc.gov to find out when the item will be back in stock.
All proceeds from the signs will benefit the city’s general fund, the release stated.
“Nothing beats Pride Month and the Pride Parade in New York City, and we are thrilled to commemorate the occasion by offering authentic, limited edition Stonewall Place/Christopher Street signs,” NYC DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez said.
The New York City DOT Sign Shop is in Maspeth, Queens, and the sign drops will feature signs for iconic New York City streets, commemorations of famous New Yorkers, celebrations of special occasions, and other custom releases.
“Now you can own an official piece of New York City: authentic commemorative street signs hand made by DOT,” Rodriguez said. “Our monthly sign drops will allow all who love New York City to celebrate the people, places, and special occasions that make this the greatest city in the world.”
