NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — After surrendering himself to state troopers Wednesday morning, an NYPD detective was indicted on charges related to a drunken car crash on Meadowbrook State Parkway in 2023 that led to serious injuries for himself, his passenger and the driver of the other vehicle, prosecutors said.

George Moore, 40, was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, aggravated driving while intoxicated and related charges on a 10-count indictment following the Aug. 4 crash.

According to the indictment and investigation, Moore was driving northbound on the Meadowbrook State Parkway, while on his way to work in Queens, in a 2014 Mercedes when he clipped a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee in the center lane.

The defendant was allegedly drunk and driving aggressively, and the force of the collision sent Moore’s car into the center divider and then head-on into a tree on the right shoulder. The Mercedes overturned and became engulfed in flames.

An investigation determined that the defendant was allegedly drinking alcohol at bars in the Rockville Centre area before the crash.

Moore’s passenger suffered a fracture to her left wrist, left foot and spine, while he suffered a broken pelvis, arm and leg. The driver of the Grand Cherokee suffered injuries to her lower back, left shoulder and right knee.

All three injured were transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.

“The defendant, an NYPD detective, allegedly got behind the wheel of his Mercedes while heavily intoxicated and put the lives of countless other people in danger that early August morning,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said. “Drunk driving is completely preventable, and my office will aggressively prosecute cases and hold reckless drivers accountable.”

Moore pleaded not guilty and was released on pre-trial services. He is expected back in court on March 14.

If convicted, the defendant faces up to 15 years in prison.
