NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The NYPD is investigating the death of a 1-month-old boy who was found unresponsive at a Brooklyn home on Thursday morning—and police reportedly believe his death was a tragic accident.
Police said the boy, identified as Deion Myers, was found unconscious by officers responding to a 911 call at a home on Belmont Avenue, near Fountain Avenue, in East New York around 3:45 a.m.
The infant had no obvious signs of trauma, according to police.
EMS responded to the scene and transported the boy to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Law enforcement sources told amNewYork that a preliminary investigation found one of his parents may have accidentally rolled onto him as he slept in their bed.
No one has been charged, according to the report.
The medical examiner will determine the boy's cause of death amid the ongoing investigation, police said.
To avoid accidental suffocation, caregivers should keep sleeping babies younger than 1 years old in the same room as them (for example, in a crib or bassinet) but not in an adult bed, according to the CDC.
