NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea on Monday said that an IAB investigation is underway into an allegation that a member of the NYPD was at the fatal riots at the US Capitol last week.
"I can tell you that there is one investigation that is active on one member," Shea said on NY1 Monday morning. "There is no name yet released because we don't know yet if it's true or not, but I can tell you that anyone committing crimes certainly would have a very short shelf life with the NYPD."
According to Shea, who has been recovering from COVID-19, he didn't know what happened until he got a call.
"I was disgusted by what I saw. Hopefully we never see that again," Shea said.
According to the commissioner, NYPD's Internal Affairs Bureau is handling the probe and did not disclose the officer's identity or position within the department.
During the interview with "Mornings on 1" Shea said that as of last night, he has spoken with Chief of Internal Affairs Joseph Resnick.
Shea also said the NYPD would "be happy to" send officers to inauguration.
"NYPD will happily send members to Washington to stand not just with law enforcement, but with officials for a peaceful transfer of power."
"Hopefully we can learn from what happened," he added.
