NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are searching for two suspects after shots rang out during an armed robbery at a Mount Vernon gas station early Friday morning, authorities said.
At 5:45 a.m., two NYPD officers from the Bronx Auto Larceny Squad were on patrol when they spotted two men who matched the description of suspects in a gunpoint robbery at a Gulf gas station on Mount Vernon Avenue.
The suspects put a gun to a gas station employee's head and demanded money, stealing at least $600, ABC 7 reported.
The officers encountered the suspects at West 1st Street and Pearl Street then exited their patrol car and began a foot chase. During the pursuit, one of the suspects fired a shot at the officers, and one officer returned fire.
No one was hit in the exchange, officials said.
The suspects escaped, but officers recovered a gun at the scene. One suspect was described as a male wearing a hoodie, and the other is a male wearing all black clothing.
An investigation is ongoing.
